Review: Follow Me Down (The Pretty Reckless)

ADVERTISEMENT/WERBUNG

Again Taylor and her band are working on another album. It is called "Going To Hell" and the first officially released song from it is "Follow Me Down". I want to talk about this one today, I hope you keep reading till the end, it's worth it!
Follow Me Down starts with a girl laughing, followed by a siren/horn and then some shrieks of the moaning girl. It all leads to the song. It is typically a The Pretty Reckless song, best noticed on the instrumental parts, Taylor's rough voice and the lyrics. Below I will post the link to the lyrics video on YouTube and the lyrics as well! So the song is basically a narration. A narration about a sordid relationship (could be either to a boy or a god). It starts with explaining that the narrator (I guess female, probably or most likely Taylor herself) is crazy since she met someone. It is not clarified, if a female or male someone is addressed. This is followed by "Have I lost my mind?" asked three times in a row and then the chorus begins. This special someone is told to follow the narrator to the river and that she is waiting there on her knees, which in my mind is not metaphorically speaking about giving somebody head but rather that she is repenting for her sins. This would on the one hand match with the title of the album but also this is more likely since I think the song could also be about the relationship to god. Anyway, later the narrator is equivocating, speaking rather filthy (which is an evidence for a boy-girl relationship) and finally says "Don't confess none of your sins". Then again the bridge/chorus and this is followed by an instrumental part. To be honest, it kind of reminds me of Nirvana. After that the narrator describes being young, how beautiful, careless and cheerful it is, but this is directly followed by telling she now understood that there is another way to die. I guess she does not mean dying physically but inside, mentally. The song ends with the wonderful, but true lyric "Young love as sweet as can be". This again militates for the relationship to a person.
I personally really like this song, the melody and instrumental parts are amazing! It is a true masterpiece, thanks to Tay, Ben, Mark and Jamie! Plus the lyrics are on the one hand clear and easy to understand, on the other hand they are as The Pretty Reckless-like as they ever can be! I do like the feeling, the mood, the atmosphere they create and what they represent. You can interpret them in so many ways, but there is only like one reading as soon as you come to know Taylor and her band better. Anyway I am looking forward to the new album "Going To Hell" including Kill Me and Follow Me Down. Furthermore I cannot wait for "Burn", another quick song clip to be released on Monday! This means... TOMORROW! Yay! So, listen to Follow Me Down and enjoy it! Tell me your opinions about it in the comments! All photos are taken from the official Taylor Momsen Twitter page!

Erneut arbeiten The Pretty Reckless an einem neuen Album, welches sich "Going To Hell" nennt. Eine erste Veröffentlichung davon ist "Follow Me Down".
~ Lyrics ~

Since I met you I've been crazy
Since I've been with you I've been lost
You make everything see hazy
Love comes with such a cost

Have I lost my mind?
Have I lost my mind?
Have I lost my mind?

Follow me down to the river
Drink while the water is clean
Follow me down to the river tonight
I'll be down here on my knees

So follow me down to the river
Follow me down through the trees
Follow me down to the river, man
I'll be down here on my knees
I'll be down here on my knees

Nights avoiding things unholy
Your hand slips across my skin
I go down on you so slowly
Don't confess none of your sins

Have I lost my mind?
Have I lost my mind?

Follow me down to the river
Drink while the water is clean
Follow me down to the river tonight
I'll be down here on my knees

So follow me down to the river
Follow me down through the trees
Follow me down to the river, man
I'll be down here on my knees
I'll be down here on my knees

When you're young you always take what you can get
Even bicycles and sprinklers get you wet
Now I know that there's a different way to die
My body breathes
Heart still beats
But I am not alive

Follow me down to the river
Drink while the water is clean
Follow me down to the river tonight
I'll be down here on my knees

Follow me down to the river
Follow me down through the trees
Follow me down to the river, man
I'll be down here on my knees
I'll be down here on my knees

Young love as sweet as can be.
